Matthew Tomsic

Matthew Tomsic is a partner who practices with the firm’s business, civil litigation and bankruptcy groups.

Matt’s litigation practice focuses on commercial and business litigation of all types, including civil litigation relating to the enforcement of non-competition and non-solicitation agreements; ownership of proprietary technology and information as well as trade secret disputes; unfair trade practices; fiduciary duties; business torts; contract disputes; Uniform Commercial Code disputes; and commercial landlord-tenant disputes, summary ejectment proceedings and actions involving commercial leases.

Matt’s bankruptcy and workout practice focuses on navigating clients through a crisis and assisting them in developing and executing a plan to regain stability. While that sometimes includes a Chapter 11 filing or a small business filing under Subchapter V, often the process involves out-of-court negotiations with creditors and other stakeholders to develop a sustainable and acceptable plan to resolve the client’s debts.

Matt also maintains a pro bono practice focusing on housing stability through programs with the North Carolina Pro Bono Resource Center, North Carolina Bar Foundation, and the Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy.

Prior to law school, Matt worked as a reporter for daily newspapers in Virginia and North Carolina as well as a business journal in Charleston, S.C.  He also managed community relations for the South Carolina State Ports Authority.
